i have several external drives. different manufacturers. all firewire. i use them constantly to back up files. i have always done this on my power macs without a problem. during transfer of a large folder containing folders and files totalling possibly 15 gigabytes, the transfer process to my new intel imac starts and at some point (point always varies) the copying process will slow down to a snails pace. the "estimated time" will climb to hours. this process should take about 12 to 15 minutes. i stop the copying at this point. this is happening with all/any of my externals. it only happens when i am copying to or from the intel imac. again, no problem with my other macs (not intel, both 10.39os and 10.47os). mac techs do not have a clue. anyone out there have one? i am currently using an application called chronosync to copy files mentioned above. no problem when using this app.
