Firstly - welcome

secondly - please try to put some grammar into your post - there is not one full stop, its incredibly hard to read!!

thirdly - your signiture is waaaay too long - 4 lines max

fourthly - in your sig you say soon to be, then macbook pro white - you mean MacBook white (MacBook Pros are silver in colour)

Anyway, that machine doesn't sound too bad - its a dual, which is obviously going to help things along. Photoshop CS shouldn't be too shabby, since that machine was on sale at a similar time to when CS was out. Just so long as you're not doing very heavy PS work (or if you are, that you have a lot of patience). If its only a 'tide-over until..' machine, then it should be fine for you needs, and it'll get you familiar with OS X

I'm only 16... , and I didn't say you have ot have perfect grammar... just a full stop, or even a comma here or there will make your posts easier to read. If people find your posts hard to read, there is less chance they will read it, and less chance you will get the help you need.

1. The Dual 500 is one of the most solid, dependable, well-designed Macs ever made. It still has plenty enough power, and probably a few years of service left in it.

2. You'll want more RAM.

3. this isnt aim lol

Even after you get your notebook the G4 will make a great file server/desktop machine. If you don't have to pay for it, I say do it

Welcome, I can relate, except the kid thing was a little longer ago, and I got the mac first, and I wouldn't let my dad on it for more than 5 minutes. A bit of advice though, I know the MacBook may look all pretty, but as you can see from the amount of negative threads for it, it has had many problems. Try starting out with a PowerBook, they are more reliable than MacBooks and it is a lot easier to get advice for them, because a lot more people have owned them.
I miss the days of the G5 and XPS Pentium 4 running side by side as high-end machines.
