Last night I started getting hard locks, all accompanied by a red LED labeled "CHECKSTOP" near the front of the case. Happens all the time now, even happened booting off the CD before being able to launch AHT. No custom hardware installed (was only use the Apple 512MB at the time).

Has anyone else experienced this?

I dropped it off this morning. The invoice listed a logic board, cpu, and power supply (750W, wow!). Thank God I'm under warranty as the repair price was like $1700. Estimate is 3-5 day turnaround, and they would call me once they knew more.

The last time I dropped it off, they couldn't get it to lock up and gave it back to me after an OS reinstall. He noticed Safari crashing a lot, but when all I do is mainly browse the web that's not unexpected. Seemed to work fine the last few months.

Just a note to fellow ProCare members - 24-hr turnaround is only when the parts are in stock. I figured with ProCare they would next-day the parts (hey it is $100/year) but that's not how it's done.

Does anyone here know why, specifically, Apple added the diagnostic lights to the Rev C G5?

"...that can help Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASPs) troubleshoot certain issues."

I'm guessing internally they know more specifically what the issues are associated with each LED. Otherwise there doesn't seem like much reason to have so many

According to the last tech I spoke with, the CHECKSTOP LED is a general one whereas the others are more specific (logic board issue, CPU issue, etc.).

Right. . . But the thing I don't understand is why the weren't LEDs on the previous G5s. I have to guess it makes identifying hardware problems easier than if the machine booted and panicked, but that's just conjecture.
