Hi

Is it possible to replace a 500 MHZ single CPU from a Sawtooth G4 (i.e., AGP Graphics) Mac with a dual processor CPU from a Gigabit Ethernet Mac? If so, does it require any modifications to the motherboard or other parts of the mac?

Many thanks!

I believe in most cases, the CPUs will work from Digial Audio and GigE Macs, but the CPUs are physically bigger and in most (all?) cases, you have to remove one of the IDE ports on your mobo.

Make sure your machine will support dual processors:

Thanks for your guidance. The switch was quick and painless. Life has moved from a single to dual processor!

where, exactly, did you get this bullywocky idea, huuummmmm

the cpu card is only slightly larger, and you do NOT have to remove anything from the mobo to make it fit. The dual heatsink IS considerably larger than the single one, but there is more than enough room in the ST mobo/case for it....

I know this because I have this exact mod in my ST right now

I was thinking about a CPU from a Quicksilver. Sorry about the confusion. Ignore my post above.
