Ive got an eMac like described in the Topic title and i would like to upgrade my hard drive and my memory and was wondering if anyone has any advice about the best type of memory modules and HD's. I'm wanting to go for about 1 GB RAM (512x2) and a 160 GB HD . any suggestions on the models that have the best compatability with my eMac ? and also maybe a SuperDrive as well if it doesnt get too expensive. I want to spend $200 at the most on the HD and memory .

You can put 1GB RAM modules in that model - Apple often puts up the specs of what was the maximum available when it was first sold. I am posting this from the very same machine with the original 256MB and an additonal 1GB stick - it has always worked fine for me - it needs PC2700 DDR SDRAM. It will also handle big HDs, so get what you can afford. Friends and colleagues say stay away from Maxtor, but maybe that is just beacuse most of our PCs at work have Maxtors and we have had a lot of failures. I like Western Digital and Segate personally- it is great to get one with a large buffer 16MB - though 8MB is still quite good.
I am also pondering whether to upgrade my internal HD - mine is 80GB, though I may get a new machine if I can find a good buyer for this one.
I assume you have seen this guide for HD replacement: http://www.lbodnar.dsl.pipex.com/eMac/eMac-upgrade.html
Although it is the previous model I undertsand your/our model is very similar internally.

I'm wondering if this HD would be compatible for my eMac- http://shop4.outpost.com/product/4596277 , it seems like a good one for a good price, and i have seen the HD replacement guide, and i am sure i will get it done professionally. About the RAM , i have seen some on the apple website, although it is way overpriced - http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...?nclm=504904EE
it is a DDR 400 PC3200 DIMM ,so im guessing that the eMac is compatible with this sort of RAM... or should i really go for only the PC2700 ?

PC3200 is backwards compatible so you shouldn't have any problems. It is probably cheaper than PC2700 at the point. Try NewEgg or TigerDirect to find RAM and hard drives for cheaper than most places.
The hard drive will work in your eMac and that is a great price.
