The DIMMs werrent swapped but my Mac is reporting that 1 of my DIMM is 512MB and the other is 256MB when it is really 512MB. what can i do to fix this?

Reseat the downsized 256 module. PRAM reset. Reboot. Run the Apple Hardware Test disk.

If that doesn't do it (and the hardware tests don't turn up anything on the computer side), I'd contact the seller of the downsized DIMM. Most good RAM comes with a lifetime warranty.
