There is now a X1900 upgrade card on the Apple Store under Accessories/Displays for $499.00 but it is only for the new Macs.
Still no upgrades for G5 graphics? PCI Express isn't going to do any of us any good if everything trickles out of Apple two years late.

What I'm wondering is how long it'll be before we know whether or not off the shelf PCIe graphics cards will work in the new towers.

I think OTS graphics cards will be working very soon... $499 is remarkably close to the retail price for X1900 cards.
As far as G5s, GPU and CPU upgrades both look bleak.

Workstation Graphics, No Sacrifices
Offering ample room for future growth, the redesigned Mac Pro enclosure features a double-wide PCI Express graphics slot. Install any of the available graphics cards, and you can still use any and all of the three remaining PCI Express expansion slots.

I notice "Install any of the available graphics cards..." in the description which you could take either means any pci-e card or just the ones in the mac store :b

Probably available as in 'available from the Apple Store'
However, if it means I can drop a card in from NewEgg in a couple of months when the X1900XTs break 250, that would be where it is at!
My hope is, and someone surely will, get their machine home and drop a current ATI/nVidia card in and then we will know.

Don't recall where, but since the keynote presentation yesterday I read that ATI will release a retail Radeon X1900 Mac Edition PCI-express card for the dual-core G5 machines.
