Wow. I can't help you with your search, but I think I would have actually preferred it if you had used all caps.

Changing a CRT is NOT something for ANY user to attempt. It's dangerous-VERY dangerous-if you don't have a lot of training. You can litteraly kill yourself attempting it. REALLY.
Pay the money to have an Apple-certified shop change out the CRT, or buy a new computer. But DO NOT attempt to change out the CRT yourself. I'm not a nervous nellie-I have almost 30 years of electronics maintenance experience, and I won't try something like that.

I was thinking of putting in an LCD as an upgrade. Like I saw on MacMod but I dont see instructions on how to do the wiring. I guess I could just keep trying trial and error but i'd rather not. Anyway if anyone can help please do. My color is starting to show discoloration and I need to replace or upgrade the screen in this great little computer. When I can afford a PowerMac G5 thats what i'll get until then this 500mhz iMac G3 will have to do. Thanx for the assistance.
PS: Does anyone know if i can support 2gigs of ram? the apple site says 1gig but thats all they went up to then... its speculated that I can do 2g but does anybody know? Anyway thanx for your help.
iMac G3 500 mhz, internal 20g hd, external 80g hd, 512mb ram Mac OS X 10.4.7, Mac OS 9.2.2 (summer 2002 release) (500, 600, 700mhz models)

I believe that the CRT is connected via a standard DB-15 (aka VGA) connector. The thing that you have to be most careful about is removing the current CRT because it can be very dangerous.
1GB is max for that model.
