cheers
my MacPro is due next week, with the default 250GB Hd. some have reported that this drive has a 8MB buffer

I also orderd a 2d HD 500GB SATAII and it has a 16MB buffer as that was the same price as upgrading the original to 500 (179 $$ deliverd.)

can I or should I clone the 250 to the 500 with carbon copy cloner and get better '''speeds''' or just reinstall with the DVD's that come with the comp and errase the 250 and start again on that.

Id like to partition the 250 to windows with BootCamp 1.1 with a 20 GB partition for windows. I don't plan to use windows much if at all but might try some games there

cheers and thanks

Depends on your use for the machine. The only difference the extra cache will make would be in operations that require frequent, multiple-function I/O access......like video or audio apps that constantly cache data to a temporary file, or need to access libraries that are stored outside of the apps normal base, like loops for garageband, or FCP and it's live effects rendering, for example

personally, I would use the 250 as a boot drive, for the OS & apps, and partition the 500 for storage, windblows, etc etc.....

you did good on the purchase though......

If you're asking about moving just your video & other files, yes, drag & drop copying will work. But if you want the 500 to be a bootable drive, use CCC to clone everything, dont forget to check the preferences for "make bootable after cloning"

good luck
