Hi, im gonna be a new switcher and my first Mac will be the Mac Pro. I was wondering which aftermarket optical drive you put into the second optical drive slot of the Mac Pro. I have heard that you can use any optical drive but you musty unscrew the the front of the covering on the drive since the Mac Pro has that built in to the case. Is that true or do you have to buy a specific drive? I just dont wanna pay $90 for an optical drive through Apple. Thanks for your help.

I've always had very good experiences installing Pioneer drives in older Mac models. I expect that it would be the same with the Mac Pros.

Also, the lip of the drive trays on the Pioneers are easily removable without any tools.

thanks alot. It seems that it will be that simple. I looked at my optical drives on my computers and a pic of the optical drive on the Mac Pro and the only differense is the lip of the drive tray and that lip appears to be very easy to remove.
