Greetings,
I'm having a problem with my G4 Quicksilver. I need to know if the fan on the Power Supply is intermittent or on continously? I'm getting Kernal Panics and the beach ball of death with the finder freezing up. The fan isn't running anymore, I use to hear it but it's not running at all. Will this heat build up cause such problems.
Thanks for any and all help.

As far as I know, the fan should run continuously.

Thanks very much for the reply, that's what I thought. So, I've ordered a replacement, and as soon as it arrives I'll replace the old one. The ony problem is living where I do, it always takes more time to get parts in.

Last month the fan in the power supply in my Power Mac G4 went out. The power supply still worked but would shut down after 10 minutes of running due to heat. I searched the Internet for a new power supply, but they are around $200 which is way too much. Instead I bought a new 80mm fan for $4. It only took about 10 minutes to pull the old fan out of the power supply and put the new one in. Everything works and I haven't had a single problem.

FYI: The original quicksilver PSU fan is an 80mm fan, spins 3000rpms, pushes 38 CFM, and makes 28 dba of noise.
If you get a new fan, make sure it pushes at least 38cfm, or your computer will run hotter. It's the only fan I haven't replaced yet, because it looks like ... well, at least in my quicksilver's PSU, it is soldered onto the PSU. I've replaced all my other fans though. If you have any questions about the specs for fans anywhere else, let me know.
