I bought an iMac computer through a local auction house that was selling off a bunch of old school equipment. I only paid $15 so I guess I should've expected problems. The 1st time I tried to start it up I only made it to 'Cannot find/connect to server' -- tried everything to get past that with no luck. I still have my old OS 9.0 disc so I booted from that and was able to look around a bit but it is still very glitchy and freezes up all the time (to the point of having to unplug it to get it to shut down (this model doesn't have the button on the side you can push to restart). I would love to keep a few of the programs (art/children's stuff - this is for my daughter) but I also have no problem wiping it completely if that is the only possibility.

It is the front tray-loading, turquoise model from '98 and any advice/info would be greatly appreciated. OS 9.2

Thank you -- Jodie

OK. Your thread title is poor... Why not change it to make sense?

You probably bought a computer that used "NetBoot" - meaning that it got all necessary OS files from a central server. Instead of IT having to administer each machine - they can just fool around on the central NetBoot server. Big time saver.

Just do a re-install of whatever OS you want to use from the original media.

I'd say wipe it and start clean.
