DVD-RAM disk burning on Sawtooth G4 ?

Can the stock DVD-RAM drive in my old G4 Sawtooth /Tiger be coaxed to actually burn DVD-RAM's instead of just reading DVD's and CD ? It's a MATSHITA PD-2 LF-D110:...System Profiler is ambiguous in saying if the drive will write to DVD-RAM disks...says it will burn , but is unsupported by system software. I'm wondering if Patchburn 4 will enable the write function of the drive ?

And by the way , does Patchburn affect Toast usability in any way ?
