Im tranfering files from my G4dual to my new MacPro via the firewire connections on the back of each useing target mode for the macpro

I have a firewire cable that came with a usb/firewire Hd enclosure

am I getting 400 or 800 speed?

how can I tell?

do I need a special cable to get the 800 speed?

the sys profiler in the g4 says this:

FireWire Bus:

Speed: 400 Mb/sec Speed

FireWire Device:

Speed: 800 Mb/sec Speed

Target Disk Mode:

Capacity: 232.89 GB
Manufacturer: AAPL
Model: Target Disk Mode
Removable Media: No
Detachable Drive: Yes
BSD Name: disk5
OS9 Drivers: No
Speed: 800 Mb/sec Speed
Unit Spec Id: 24734
Firmware Revision: 0000
Unit Software Version: 10483

this implies to me the macpro has a 800 speed but the g4 only delivers 400

is this due to the cable? to the port Im useing on the back of the g4?

its the lower of the two

thanks

i thought that fw800 had its own type of cables...if you are using a fw400 cable, it only plugs into fw400 ports...i may be totally wrong, but anyways...

youre correct

FW800 seems to have this cable:

Go External: FireWire 800 | Tom's Hardware

I think that the G4dual does not have a firewire800 port as it doesnot have this connector.

but I get this in sys prof for the G4:

FireWire Bus:

Speed: 400 Mb/sec Speed

FireWire Device:

Speed: 800 Mb/sec Speed

FireWire Device:

Speed: 800 Mb/sec Speed

maybe that meand althouogh its a 400 bus its connected to the MacPro and thats 800??

sure would like to figure thisout.

Im guessing on the back and front of the MPro there is both a FW400 and a firewire800 and the 800 is the wierd cable that i do not have.

anybody know if there are ****good**** firewire 800 cards for the g4? not just as some of these cards seem to be?

cheers and thanks
