OS 10.2.(what ever)(the latest)

Hi Everyone,

My neighbor recently decided to buy Tiger, and she asked me to install it. While installing I get a general error and the installer stops, and prompts me to restart and try again. (Which I did...no luck) I decided to check the firmware to make sure it was the most current it is. So I then looked to the drive, booting off the CD and running Disk Utility. Running the Repair disk option I get the following error:

"Volume Bit Map needs minor repair"
"1 Volume could not be repaired because of an error"

How do I repair this? I know the “easiest” way would be to erase the drive and do a fresh install. I really don’t want to do that because of the massive backup required both time and space. (There are 4 kids and 2 adults with user accounts, all have iPods, Purchased Music, Mail, bookmarks, etc, etc)

If the only option is to erase the whole drive is there a way I can get OSX to automatically import all the user data. I know there is an option during the set up assistant to import user data from another Mac via Firwire. Can I do that using an external drive? If so how?

Any Help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
