You can go from a G3 to a Core Duo???? Please do tell where. That would be very, very, cool. I somehow think that bstone was joking though.

installing RAM is very easy on a slot load. installing a HD was pretty easy on a slot load. (slots loads are all i got) what model do you have?

There are G3-G4 CPU upgrades available for slot-loaders. It requires, however, that you take your iMac completely apart and ship the logicboard. While you are at it, you could do the HDD and disc drive at the same time. The problem is that you could just about buy a G4 iMac with all of that for the time and money you would put in.

that's why I asked if it was possible to switch to a 600Mhz logic board as I can get one for fifty bucks. I don't know anything about iMacs I have never owned one.

I am almost positive you can do that. The G4 upgrade costs around $550 for 550MHz, so it is pretty much a rip off. And the DVD drive is pretty simple to install, as is a HD and RAM.

@bstone
My signature does not say anything about an iMac, I said I have never owned an iMac not that I have never owned a mac . All in one computers are a little different then towers especially in the mac.

So I guess no one can confirm or deny my idea about the logic board.
I think maybe I will scour the web for a clue and if I manage to do it I will post some pictures of it and let you know of any problems/disasters I run into.

I don't think it will just screw in. It also involves you poking around next to a CRT. That is risky. Opening CRTs can screw you up.

In general, it works if the powersupply is the same. Check that before you begin.

I just ordered a 550mhz upgrade for my iMac DV Blueberry from DayStar. Cheaper than MCE Technologies that's for sure.

That's nice Apein, but I like $50.00 much better and you still have to remove your logic board and send it to them and then put it back in so the labor is the same.
Plus I will have 16MB video if this works instead of a stinky 8Mb.

For $50 less you can find a dual processor G4 tower that would run rings around the upgraded iMac.

I have heard something about the heatsink not lining up but don't know what they mean.
I have the new Logic Board and there are (3) heatsinks on it, I assume 1 for video 1 for the processor and 1 for the power supply. I looked at an exploded view of the iMac but don"t see anything. Could someone enlighten me?
