I've got a Power Mac G5 Dual 2GhZ w/ 5 gigs of RAM (OS X 10.4.7), so this thing should be zooming through whatever I throw at it. I use it at work and I use a lot of heavy programs at the same time (ex. Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Indesign). But I also keep a lot of otther programs open as well, like Entourage for Mail, iTunes for Music, and Xtensis Suitcase for my fonts. Occasionally I'm connected to the company server when working on projects. But lately, my Phohoshop (CS2 by the way) has become very slow. When I have all these programs open, I either begin to get really slow, or even a freeze, and worse case I get the BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH and have to reboot. Anyone got any suggestions as to why this is happening. Oh, and I also ran Mac's throrough hardware test and itfound nothing wrong with the hardware. Any help would be most appreciative, thanks.

What's the black screen of death? I don't think you're using the right term. Are you referring to the dimmed screen, multi-language dialog known as the Kernel Panic?

Yeah, I meant the Kernal Panic. I have 70 GB available on the 160 GB capacity Hard Drive. I think it might be a software problem, specifically the Adobe CS2 programs because it is an upgrade and not the full version, but I don't know. I was thinking of putting all my files (minus the programs) on my external and formatting my machine. What do you guys think?

Have you tried an Archive and Install of the OS? Can you post the panic logs?

Haven't tried an Archive and re- Install. How do I get the Panic Logs? I would like to see that myself.

I would run Apple's Hardware Test on your machine and in addition to that use memtest to test your RAM (I know AHT does it, but it doesn't hurt to do it twice).
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Apple's Hardware tests also don't catch things every time, run it a number of times to be sure.

Also, try working in a new account, sometimes some odd setting in your library can cause a ruckus.
