Hey all!
Just got a Mac Pro about 2 weeks ago...lovin' it. But I'm having a small issue.

The machine is replacing two older towers -- an original G5 and a pretty old PC tower, which were connected via a KVM switch before. I have a Logitech Z680 5.1 speaker system. The base station for the speakers has 3 inputs: 6-channel analog, optical, and coax.

In the past, I had the PC hooked up to the 6-channel analog and got proper surround in all my games and other 5.1-aware apps under Windows. The G5 was hooked up to the optical, and I never seemed to get proper surround (if I recall correctly I MAY have gotten proper surround when playing DVD movies -- the base unit would switch to a DTS mode I couldn't otherwise access). Mac games never used to let me access 5.1 audio.

Anyway, now, my Mac is both my Mac and my PC. I never really cared that my optical out didn't give me 5.1 in Mac games before because I did most of my gaming on the PC. But now that optical jack is my only choice; is there any way to get games in Windows to properly use the 5.1 capability of that output? Does it even HAVE 5.1 output? I mean, I've read it does, but it certainly doesn't seem to. Nothing in Windows sees more than 2.1. Nor is there any evidence that the Mac sees more than 2.1. Is thereany kind of demo or surround test or anything I can try?

Sorry if that was kind of confusing...haha. But I do hope someone has some info!

Thanks
Be happy.

I think that the logic board uses integrated Intel Hi-Definition audio. You might try looking into that and maybe have some luck finding a driver. Otherwise, I think you may have to look at some external options like the Firewave.
