Periodically, my new iMac Core Duo's screen will dim itself slightly after a period of idleness and brighten back up when I start using it again. I'm not fond of this "feature" and would like to disable it. Here are the steps I have tried:
  1. Visited Energy Saver --> Options and unchecked Automatically reduce the brightness of display before sleep, but this seems to not have stopped the dimming behavior;
  2. Opened up Terminal.app and executed the command sudo pmset halfdim 0 while also watching the open Energy Saver --> Options pane and noticed that this causes the box to uncheck itself. At this point I think I may be on the right track;
  3. Executed the command sudo pmset lessbright 0 and noticed that there is no immediately noticeable effect. We'll see if this turns off the cycle of brightness reduction/increase that I find so annoying. EDIT: Nope, it still does it. Darn.
Anybody else have observations to share on this subject?

This is the terminal command you need to make it stop: sudo pmset halfdim 0 which you list in step 2, but you have to run this each time you boot.

It is annoying.

I guess one could stick that inside a do shell script command in AppleScript, save it as an application, and make it a Login Item.

Yeah, this is a known bug in OS 10.4.x. I didn't know there was a Terminal work-around though.
