24-inch iMac limited to only 3GB via 2 slots?

I find it odd that the 24" iMac is limited to 3GB to two memory slots.

Making it 1x1GB & 1x2GB.

It also appears buying RAM from them isnt all that expensive anymore as bumping up te base config to 2x1GB is an additional $175 (vs Crucial.com's quote of 1x1GB @ $155) & 1x2GB and 1x1GB is an additional $750 (vs Crucial.com's quote of 1x2GB @ $1400)
