I know the new 24" iMac can take a VESA mount, but since I really prefer the 20", what options do I have to effectively raise/lower the height of my new iMac (aside from an unused phonebook)?

How much higher do you want to make it? 1", 2", 4", 8"?

Did Apple seriously make the iMac VESA-mountable, then not, and now mountable again? wtf.

Not sure until I try it, but I know that it was only a week after I got my 20" iMac Intel Core Duo that my neck started to hurt. Didn't seem to have that issue with my Dell 19" LCD that tilts backward about 10º-12º but otherwise only adjusts for height. The iMac has the reverse problem, no height adjustment, but way more tilt adjustment than is needed and it doesn't lock that adjustment into place.

Aggravating.
