I am about to get a CTO iMac 20" Intel Core 2 Duo with 256MB VRAM, but at the last minute I'm wondering if I might be better off with a Mac mini and an Apple Cinema Display, partly because the iMac's screen isn't height-adjustable and I have a strong need for that. I assume that I'd be making a slight tradeoff in processor speed, L2 cache, and hard drive size if I went with the Mini over the iMac, but maybe I could upgrade it afterwards, tricky tho that is. Any thoughts?

Well, true, but you can add a VESA mount, whereas you cannot do that with an iMac. I should have mentioned that!

Get the 24". You can add a VESA mount to that.
Or you can just put the iMac on a stand (if you want to raise it).

Sure, but for my purposes, I find the 24" to be a little TOO big. Anyway, the iMac and the Mini both use laptop-grade hard drives, right? But the iMac's is much bigger....

If you dont want it for anything fancy then I'd just get a mini. That way you have an awesome display for your next computer.

The mini would be giving up a lot of performance to the iMac. The mini uses the 2.5" laptop drives while the iMac uses the 3.5" desktop drives. There are many other subtle performance benefits to the iMac.

I'd get the iMac and put it on a stand.
It is however a real shame that Apple thinks their iMacs and ACDs shouldn't be height-adjustable. IMHO the fact that they can only tilt is nothing else than form over function at its worst. There was a time when Apple was leading computer ergonomics.
