I installed an ATI 9800 pro 256mb grfx card with an apple adc to dvi adaptor into my 1ghz MDD and it worked fine then, fine this morning even during an hour long WoW session. i then put it to sleep, came back 30 mins later and woke it up to find blue colour banding little black lines across my screen.

Anyone have any idea whats wrong?

Have you tried the obvious reseating the card, making sure everythings plugged in properly? Is the fan still spinning on the card?

Did it come back even after powering the system down and restarting it?

I'm having the same issue with my 9700. I've blown it out, but the artifacts remain. Next up is reseating the card, but I'm not sure if that'll do it.

Could our cards be shot or is it likely a heat issue?

I got a 9800 Pro/256 for my MDD G4, and it worked great at first, but then I started getting artifacts in Quake 4. It's simply a heat issue. I sent it back and they said theres nothing wrong with it, so I asked for a refund, cause it obviously wasn't working. I didn't wanna bother buying more fans and stuff.....

After a bit more troubleshooting, I found out the fan on the card is completely dead. Anyone know of any good cooling kits for the Radeon 9700 or similar?

Iceberq 4 kit is just the ticket for the 9700/9800, robust fan plus Vram sinks. Not to speak out of school but, I purchased a 9800 off eBay ( for a steal ) that was artifacting to the point the seller was going to trash it. Iceberq 4 has it humming along like new.

Does the Iceberq 4 hook up to the two-pin connector on the card or does it hook up to one of your Molex plugs?

anyone know if the iceberq 4 will fit onto a 9800 in a MDD tho? The ram is very close to the fan side of the card. Also, how quiet is it?
Im thinking of replacing all the fans in my mdd with quieter ones so i dont really want a loud grfx card.
thanks for the help!

I'm not sure how loud it is, but there is 18 mm of clearance between the card and the top of the optical drive assembly. From the Iceberq dimensions, it should just barely fit..

The 9800 I put the IB 4 kit on is in my MDD, PERFECT FIT. VRAM sinks are only ~5mm tall fan is quieter than stoxk 9800 fan.

Got the Iceberq 4 today. Stupid NewEgg can't label their products properly. I purchased it since it is "VGA compatible" but it only fits Nvidia cards. Lame. Now to rangle with them on the return.

Newegg came through. Gave me a refund less shipping and let me keep the part (to small an amount for an RMA). Not bad. Now onto the correct part, which should be here Tuesday or Wednesday.

would be simpler if they were just called "Iceberq 4" with a option between nvidia and ati model. That pro/non pro crap is just confusing.

Completely agree with you there. I just hope that my card isn't fried after all this.

The fan came and I just installed it. I works. . . sort of. The pink bands disappear and then reappear. I'm going to try applying the RAM heatsinks and see if it makes a difference. I'm afraid it's fried.

Update: I had to post this last one quickly because the banding was getting way worse. I'm working on applying the RAM heatsinks, but I have a feeling it won't work. Will ATI repair an OEM card? Any idea on the price?

I'm getting a sinking feeling that I'll be replacing the card.

Think you have to contact the OEM, but give ati a ring. They seem to have excellent customer service.

If it's possible to lower your refresh rate, try it. I had a high refresh rate on one of my monitors and it produced weird sparkles/banding. Lowering it eliminated it.

Also, I once had luck with degaussing after my cats knocked over my ASD CRT and it went all weird.

"'Jelly Hat' sounds silly," I told Prince. "How about something poetic, like 'Raspberry Beret.'"

BlueSky -- Unfortunately, it's an Apple Studio Display, so I couldn't adjust the refresh rate. In any case, the bands showed up immediately after installing the new fan and copper heat sink, so it's probably not heat related. A bit more googling turned up that it's probably bad VRAM.

I called ATI and they couldn't help me out. The part is an Apple part (Radeon 9700 Pro OEM), so I could call them, but I used to work as a Mac professional, and I know what kind of ridiculous prices they charge for that part.

In the end, I purchased a Radeon 9600 Pro from a G5 and applied the tape mod. Works great with my (formerly secondary) 15" DVI display. Now I just have an extra 17" ASD sitting around (no ADC with the G5 card). Anyone want to buy it?

I thought about that, but given the price of the adapter and the price I got on an open box 20" Cinema Display, I decided to skip it.
