Hello, I have been looking to upgrade from my 1.42ghz G4 mac mini, and I was eyeing the 1.83ghz Dual Core mini, however i have recently been offered a deal on a DUAL 1.8ghz Powermac G5 for the same price, what should I get?? Is it that important to go Intel, I wont be using windows either way, but Is it wise investing in older tech over the new x86? Thanks ahead of time!

That's cheap for a dual 1.8 GHz Power Mac, but what specs, and what will you be using it for?

The specs are as follows, Dual 1.8ghz G5, 1GB Ram, 5200 Ultra, Super Drive, and 250gb HDD, also i have my eye on an even cheaper 1.6 single g5 but kind of want dual cpu, I would use it for web browsing, burning/ripping music, making movies, light gaming....etc. Is the g5 better or worse in comparison to the Macintel mini? I really like the idea of expandability and hate the thought of the GMA 950 in the mini....

That's very cheap for a Dual G5 Power Mac, if you're getting it for $800 or whatever.

BTW, the 5200 Ultra also sucks, but overall it still seems like quite a reasonable deal. The 5200 Ultra also supports Core Image (and Core Animation), albeit very slowly like GMA 950. The good thing about the Power Mac is you can upgrade the GPU if you desire. Not so with the Mac mini obviously.

As the title says the dual 1.8 didnt work out because he decided to hike the price on me, so it's down to a 1.6 single g5 for $800 or a Dual core mini for $800 which should i go for?
