Hi Guys,
Just took the plunge on a 2.66 Mac Pro. The recommended step up. Just so I didn't have to wait. I got and Airport Extreme card as well, seperate. I opened it up to install but where does it go?
I have the feeling that the Mac Pro's have a specail card. No one at the Apple store said anything when I brought them together. But the only spot I can see where it would go, the slot on the motherboard is smaller. So did I get the wrong one?

Thanks for any help

MM

BTW loving the new Mac!!!

I think you picked up the wrong card.

Apple uses a new Airport card in the Mac Pros: the Airport Express.

The Mac Pro computer has an optional, internal AirPort Extreme module connected to a dedicated 1-lane PCI Express bus. The AirPort Extreme module is available as a fully-integrated configure-to-order option or as an Apple Authorized Service Provider kit, which can be installed by an Apple retail store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. For more information, see AirPort Developer Note.

Yeah, there's obviously some confusion about the name (Express v. Extreme). But the Mac Pro definitely uses a different card.

*update*

I took the Airport card back. Man did they do whatever they could not to refund my money.
They even called the sales person to see if she said would work or not. Wankers.

But they did say it is not a customer installable option and can only ATM be ordered with the Mac Pro.

Thinking of getting the Airtunes option which is a better but more expensive way to do it. All I wanted was to be able to go on the net with my Powerbook. So if I did get the card for the Mac Pro it would have to be on for me to use the net, if I get Airtunes the Mac Pro can be off which is better for saving power.

Anyway just thought I would let you guys know how it went.

If you just want to get your PowerBook on wifi, buy a $40 wireless base station. That way you don't have to leave your Mac Pro on and not sleeping for your PowerBook to get on the net.

good call on the wireless base station. I'll look into it, def an advantage to not have to have the tower on to surf the net.

Thanks

You could try using a 3rd party Ethernet to WiFi adaptor.

My sister used one to connect an old iMac to my parents WiFi network at home.

Something like the Netgear WGE111
