you do realise OSX can only read FAT32 upto 32Gb right?

I would use Bootcamp to make the partition resizing. Be the safest way to keep your OSX partition OK. But I am completly new to this also. Only been using bootcamp for 3 days.

THIS is totally wrong... I have a 250 Gb drive that is FAT32 and it works great... windows has a software limitation to 32 GB, but you can format far beyond that if you use other software...

well when you use bootcamp it tells you that a 32Gb FAT32 partition iss the biggest that is readable by OSX not XP.

read here

http://images.apple.com/macosx/bootc...etup_Guide.pdf

page 10.

Like I said if you want when your in OSX to be able to read the XP partition on you internal SATA drive it has to be FAT32 and no bigger then 32Gb.

I not saying that XP can't. Also not saying if you have a external drive formatted as FAT32.

have you used bootcamp?

The Windows installer has the 32Gb limit on it... OSX can read a fat32 volume bigger then that. I have a 250GB drive that works fine, internal or external... although it's PATA.

I will agree that the windows partitioner can only create a 32Gb partition due to it's software limits.

My point being OSX AND XP can use a FAT32 format larger then 32GB, but the windows formatter will only let you format up to 32GB.

This is unrelated to bootcamp, just the readability of the format... a partition created outside of the windows installer can be larger then 32GB... just to clear up this common misconception...

I have not used bootcamp YET, I have a drive that should be here in less then 12 hours that will hopefully have XP on it before the end of the day...

I dont think you can change a partition size once it has been created under windows... from what I understand this is a special ability of bootcamp... I could be wrong though!

you might have to start a fresh partition and re-install windows...

sweet.

got my 200Gb IDE hd working in both XP and OSX by formatting the drive using disc utility and format as MS-DOS. I used the second CD drive IDE cable to plug it in with not troubles.

Theonly thing is that FAT32 doesn't allow long file names which kinda sucked for some of the files I wanted to keep on it, but otherwise all good
