I picked up a PowerMac G4 733 DA several months back and it is now my file server. I have three HDDs ( the original and 2 Seagate 7200 200GB), but it was the first non-Windows desktop I have had. I have had a PowerBook, but never an Apple tower. Anyhow, there were no places to slide them in. The original has a little metal holder it is attached to on the bottom, but the others I had to just sit on the bottom of the case. That can't be good for cooling. Plus, the fan is going non-stop and the machine is pushing a lot of heat out back. What options do I have?

You can put the drives in cooled external cases or you can mount them in the 5.25 area intended for the optical drives.
I can't remember off the top of my head how many drives the 733 was supposed to hold. My MDD for example has two HD brackets each of which is designed to hold two drives.
ATT iPhone 4; 13" MBP; MDD G4.

if you're not using the zip drive, that is a good location for a drive...my DA has mounting for 2 drives on the bottom, but i can't picture how they go to explain it...
