I have a 200GB External Firewire 400 hard drives with a bunch of stuff on it, and i'm trying to copy it to the 160GB drive in my Mac Pro. It'll be copying away, and then it'll just stop. The copying window won't dissapear, and it won't give me an error message, it'll just stop. I end up having to relaunch the finder.

I now have the hard drive plugged into my iBook, and i'm accesing the files through the Network, and it's copying to my hard drive just fine. I just did the EFI update thing.......

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

edit: It's telling me that my computer doesn't need the SMC update... how can that be?

Hmm.. were you using the front Firewire port to do the copies? I had that problem where the copies would just stop too, was wondering if it was something I should get looked at. I moved to the back FW port and it works fine now, no problems. Don't believe it's any sort of issue, I imported some video through my Canopus box Sunday night using the front FW port and it worked fine.

BTW, you just got your MacPro Monday, so it's possible it might already have the firmware updates. Did you check the version in System Profiler?

Yeah, it's 1.7f8.

I tried the front port and a port on the monitor. Haven't tried the back port though. But it's good to know that it's in all Mac Pro's.

Yeah no worries, I got mine what.. a week before yours? I have 1.7f8 too, so I didn't get the SMC update either, just the EFI. Not sure when they started putting that version on, but it seems to have been for awhile.

Ah, problem nailed then. I thought that was kind of odd, thought there might have been some issue, still a small chance it could be some issue hardware related but it doesn't sound like it. You may want to try the back port just to verify everything is okay. You have the FW cable from the ACD plugged into the back port right?
