It seems to me that everyone here who has ordered the 24" iMac, ordered it with the 7600 GT. It seems like a smart move for most (but not all) users, because it's a relatively cheap upgrade, and gives you not only 256 MB video RAM, but also a much faster GPU. (It's even more of a no-brainer in Canada, since it's only a US$80 upgrade here, whereas it's a US$125 upgrade in the US.)

There are some people who wouldn't benefit much from the extra GPU speed and GPU RAM, but so far I have not come across a single person in this forum that has ordered the 24" iMac with 7300 GT. I was just wondering if anyone has, and if so, what you'll be using it for.

I can definitely understand not ordering the 2.33 GHz CPU though. It's a marginal upgrade, and costs a fair amount. That didn't stop me from ordering it though.

I completely agree - for those who want to keep the machine over even 1 year, not getting a 7600 is a false economy. More and more is being offloaded to the GPU in terms of GUI, making it more like a third CPU, instead of a specialist component for gamers.

As far as I can tell, the 7600 is for gaming. I've never played a game on a Mac ever.

The 7300 in the Apple store seemed to cope with HiDef video at full resolution rather well. That's good enough for me
