I recently bought a MacPro with the 2x2.66 intel xeon,2x500gb 4gb of ram (2x2), an 20" apple cinema display. all ram and disks were installed at store upon purchase...firmware was a little tricky to get through for me...whole reset fan thing blah.......ANYWAYS I have read that some MacPro's have been supposedly DOA or just goto sleep whatever....I only let mine sleep because thats something I do very little of and this is my first Mac ever and im testing its reliability early on .....anyways i want to know one thing i have read....will the MacPro be upgradable to the 4 core intel's when it comes out?? I have read it but not confirmed...and if so I have 3 years of applecare and would it void a warranty?

thanks in advanced and I plan on being an acitve member to the forums

According to Anandtech, the Mac Pro is upgradeable to a CPU with 4 cores per socket, for a total of 8 cores, yes.

It will indeed void your AppleCare

There's a thread created recently talking about the testing of Intel's quad core chips in the MacPro. According to the report, it works. It would technically violate the warranty because processors aren't user serviceable.
