So the other day I asked if the new macpro would be quad-core ready, and to my satisfaction I called my friend whom's father works at the intel headquarters here in Beaverton, Oregon doing something with the designing of the cores, and said it will be fully compatable with the current line of dual-core processors. HOWEVER stated that indeed it might be better to stick with dual core until 2008-2009 on account of programs not taking FULL advantage of multipe core and thread processing. So he stated that the 2.66 dual core for macpro is the best bang for the buck in his opinion because you can upgrade to either dual or quad-core processors depending on your needs for multiple thread processing. SO in short (not shortly) said to buy ram as needed and it is more important (DUH).

well if anyone listens to my rant...thanks and hope it was somewhat informative

im just glad to live where they make and design these chips....well mostly the prototypes then sent to china to be built there....but know of someone who HAS them.....i didnt mention that his dad has the quadcore already much like anandtech's people have...his is a more recent build though i believe...anyways i have the 2.66 with 2gb of ram 4x512 and am going to buy a 4 gb matched pair from OWC (2x2gb) and stick that in their and sell the apple ram or use it...until i can sell it any buy more 2 gb sticks to eventually in 2-3 years get the full 16gb

more ram = always good, especially when you already have a nearly top-notch cpu and fast HDD (or 2,3,4)........

Sorry, but it's old news. You really didn't have to call your friend to find out that the Mac Pro's CPUs are upgradeable, Anandtech announced that a week ago http://forums.macnn.com/65/power-mac...cores-mac-pro/
Mac Pro Dual 3.0 Dual-Core

still would rather have a confirmed intel employee tell me he has beta model processors that run in the same FSB and duo core chipsets.

I'm not sure why you'd consider the word of some random guy who works at Intel HQ as more valuable than the confirmed report of a person with the chip in hand who tried it and verified that it works. I'll take evidence over speculation, even informed speculation, any day of the week.

The good news for all of us is, of course, that it works. It's great to see Anandtech verifying what we were all hoping would be possible.
