What's the latest news on the Mac Pro/Bootcamp/SATA issue?

I've been getting different answers to this. Some people say that the latest firmware for the Mac Pro coupled with BootCamp 1.1.1 has fixed the problem, and others say it has not fixed the problem. I'm very eager to install windows on my Mac Pro...
Thanks

One report on macintouch said it did fix it. Only one way to find out.
Let me know how that goes, I'm considering it but am not yet ready to try. So I'll let you be the guinea pit.

Well, I actually kinda can't try it. My 23" ACD can't go to a low enough resolution to load windows. I have a 15" ADC monitor that I can plug in with my DVI-ADC adapter, but that's a hassle. I think i'll wait until it's confirmed that it works.

Yes, the firmware update fixes the SATA issue (it changes the drive mode even if you previously used the slipstreaming method). But it doesn't fix the issue with the 23" ACDs not working with Windows installer.

Will I be able to install windows using a 15" Apple display, and then plug in the 23" and use it with that from then on?
edit: Nevermind, i'm taking the plunge, i'll report back.

Okay, I forced the disc out, and then it said it can't find a bootable disc!!!! So I zapped the P-Ram, and it's now booting up in OS X again, WHEW. Now, time to do this right!

Now, if someone could tell me how to make it use the 23" ACD as the primary monitor, that would be very helpfull.....

It'll work once you have Windows + Boot Camp drivers installed. You say you have a 15" display you can use, so use that for installation. I would also install WinACD after the Boot Camp drivers to make things work perfectly.
BTW hold down the Option key at at startup to select what OS to boot. That probably would have helped you when you were stuck with the Windows CD in there.

I'm using the 23" ACD with mine. It works fine. I do have a second monitor attached, but the ACD is the primary (you can set it up this way in the display settings window, by right clicking the deskop, properties, settings -- extend desktop and make primary).
I didn't install boot camp until after I updated firmware, and SATA works at full speed.

I had to use a program called WinACD to make my 23" Display work. When I had my 15" ADC monitor plugged in, it wouldn't let me make the 23" ACD the primary monitor. However, everything is working fine now, however during startup, I don't see the "Windows XP" screen. The screen stays black for a while, and then takes me straight to the blueness. I'm guessing it's because the Windows XP screen always shows at a low resolution, and it can't show on the screen or something.... anyway. It works just fine, however I haven't tested Drive speeds... but i'm sure it works fine.

I see the black w/logo Windows boot/startup screen on my 23. Weird. I don't know if I ever tried it with just the 7300 though -- I'm currently using a PC 7800 GT along with the 7300, and the 23" ACD is connected to the 7800.

That kinda explains it. I'm using a Mac X1900XT card that the monitor is plugged into.

Even though the firmware fixed the MacPro SATA issues under BootCamp, it can be improved. I don't get nearly the same throughput in Windows XP Pro as I do in OS X Tiger.

Oh well, I don't use windows yet anyhow. I don't have any games. I want Half Life, Half Life 2, Oblivian, and Knights of the Old Republic 2.

I use my 1900 and my 23" just fine. Just leave the monitor unplugged when booting between OS's and it works just fine.

Mine works just fine without leaving the monitor unplugged. It simply stays black throughout the "Windows XP" bootup page, but then lights up in time for login. No problem.

Not sure how to check the DMA mode of hard drives in Windows XP, but it seems to be running quite well for me post EFI update (installed a standard, non-slipstreamed WinXPsp2 system on my MP after the EFI and SMC updates).
