Good morning,

I'm just about to order a 24 Inch iMac and would like some input on the two different Graphics card options available; the standard NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 128MB SDRAM or the upgrade to the NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 256MB SDRAM for about $100. Normally I'd just buy the upgraded card but would like to understand if I'm going to notice any real difference between the two...

95% of use will be Internet, iTunes, some MS Office, and iPhoto. Very limited iMovie, etc. I'll probably keep this machine for 12-18 months before flipping it on E-Bay and buying whatever the latest and greatest is at that time.

Thanks in advance...

You won't need it, but it might help you to have the upgrade when you come to sell the iMac. It'd make it a more attractive purchase over the stock graphics card, especially as it will have improved longevity in terms of gaming etc.

I second that emotion.

Can someone enlighten me as to exactly what the upgraded card would allow you to benefit from.

Well, of course the extra power is most useful in games and 3D, but it also is used to do all the GUI effects that Mac OSX has, so with each new version of the OS, it'll be taxed more in normal use. Also, the extra VRAM is always useful as it is used to cache windows and display elements, and is cut in half if you add another display.
