Okay, so, I've been saving up for a mac for a while. I still need about...300$, but my brother's laptop just died! (toshiba, not macbook). So anyways, he can't function without a computer, and theres a 10 day waiting period to get the laptop fixed/replaced, and there's no way we're sharing. So he's going to loan me $300 so I can buy the bare minimun 17" iMac, on sale at futureshop for $999 canadian, which is good, compared to the regular $1099 canadian. We were going to tonight, but the store is closed. So, we're going tomorrow. and,

i can't wait.

So, any advice is welcomed, or anything to do while I wait, like, a game or something, i don't know. btw, I'm making the switch, windows to mac.

17-inch model with 1.83GHz processor
512MB (2x256MB) of PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 memory
Two SODIMM slots support up to 2GB

17-inch model with 2.0GHz processor, 20-inch and 24-inch models
1GB (2x512MB) of PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 memory
Two SODIMM slots support up to 3GB
If you get the model with only 512MB, upgrade the memory to 1GB or 1.25GB. (50-100% faster iMac)

Read up on the Widgets or goto the Mac site and find the ones you will want (should have broadband for this)

Think about playing a DVD movie on your iMac with the remote.

Look at Q: (a little advanced for a starter and 512MB)

Yeah, lol. The last one that we had, it was in the place getting repaired for about....65 days, so they just gave us a new one. I have a question. With iChat, can you talk to msn, aim, or yim contacts, or just other people with macs?

I don't believe iChat can chat with msn, aim, etc. but I do believe Adium can.

iChat works with AIM and Jabber clients - not MSN, unfortunately.

If you have broadband you can now get free AOL and then use AIM. AIM may be a standalone program also.

No, no, no. If you have an AIM screenname, all you have to do is enter it, either on first launch of iChat, or later in preferences:

Working fine, but one question, how do I open front row? I got the model that doesn't come with the apple remote, does that mean i don't get front row?

Nope - just hit Command-Escape and you'll be all set!
