Hi,
We are about to purchase a Mac Pro for animation/illustration/video/3dcg work
My budget cannot stand the 4500 Quadro card
can i buy a QuadroFX1500 (PCI-e)and use it only with XP?
so that when we need OSX and 2d work we will use the default 7300 on one monitor and when in need for 3D stuff we will use both on both monitors with XP...(and/or Linux)
ps.We think to install each OS on different physical drive (3x250)
ps2:i heard about osx causing trouble with non compatible gpus does this mean not working at all or showing error messages and just not using the gpu(and therefore the monitor attached to it)

Not sure there is enough information yet to know what will/wont work when dual booting MacOSX and Windows. I've not read anything about this particular card.
But, if you choose to try it (buy the FX1500 from some place you can return it), let us know how it works... or doesn't work.

i will definately try it...unless i get the quadrofx4500...
by the way is it possible to run just XP on the MacPro...
i mean ditch the MacOSX until the software we use gets the UB version
and work for a couple of months win XP Pro as a OS...
(maybe the we wont need to pay 1600 extra for the 4500 just the extras for the cheaper card and the XP license...

Just be sure your OS X graphics card is the 7300. I don't think the Mac Pro has enough PCI Express lanes to handle two full 16x cards, which is why the machines don't have Crossfire or whatever the NVidia version is. (Someone is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong).
Yes, you can use the Mac Pro as a Windows only machine. Just make sure you burn the Boot Camp drivers on CD, and then after you have the Boot Camp drivers burned, ignore the rest of Boot Camp and set up Windows on it just like it was a PC. Then, after Windows is installed, install the Boot Camp drivers. Should be good.
