Hi All,

A friend of mine has just acquired a new iMac, and I've come to help her move her data from her old TiBook to the new machine (I have a side-business in Mac support).

The problem is that we've stalled at the "Transfer of Information" screen (TiBook in FWTransfer mode, iMac sees it, but we've got the beachball of death at the actual transfer stage).

I've restarted the iMac once, but we've stalled at the same spot.

Any suggestions? I'm going to rebuild permissions on the TiBook, but after that, I'm stuck.

No harm in running hardware test and disk utility on both machines seperately before continuing...

Hi David, thanks for replying,

No problems running diagnostics on the iMac, she has all the discs. Not so for the TiBook (yeah, I know, I should've brought some), unfortunately, all I could do was fix permissions. That didn't work, same problem.

So, I'm stuck with making a disk image of her TiBook's drive on my portable FW drive, and now I'm going to have to move everything manually to the iMac (agony!).

<phew>

I was able to run the Migration Assistant using the disk image of the TiBook and generate a new account on the iMac. Saved me hours (I wasn't sure that that was going to work, but luckily it did).
