Alright, so I'm jumping in at this whole Mac experience.

I recently got a PowerMac G4 Digital Audio. It's got 3 SCSI drives and I think No Os. I also got a Sonnet G4 Dual 1.3 CPU upgrade, and a Radeon 9800 Pro upgrade.

So, I was wondering about the logisitics of getting everything going. Do I need to:

Install OS X, then the CPU upgrade, then the Video Card upgrade.

Some help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

The thing to research first is the Sonnet card. Does it require a firmware update and is the update already on the PowerMac. IIRC, firmware for an older PowerMac needs to be updated while in OS 9. Also, is this card compatible with your Digital Audio. Some older PowerMacs have issues with multi-processor systems. This page will give you a little information:

Sonnet Encore/ST Duet *DUAL* G4/1.8GHz 2MB L... (SG4D-1800) at OWC

While this isn't your processor, it should give you some good information.

As for the video card I say go ahead and put it in.

all the DAs supported dual processor cards...it was the sawtooths that had to be tested for compatibility. i updated the firmware for the dual 1.8 gigadesigns i have in OS X, so it's specific to the upgrade

Sonnet's Dual 1.3/1.33 is 7455 based, so no firmware update is required. Just plug and play.

Personally, I would just plug in the CPU upgrade and the new video card then proceed to being installing OS X.

Hey.

Thanks for the quick replies. I did do as much research as I could before purchasing each item so the Sonnet and 9800 should be compatible with my system and I'm fairly sure no firmwire upgrade is needed with the dual 1.3 with 2MB L3 cache.

I'm going to connect the 9800 to a IBM P275 CRT monitor (I initially wanted an Apple Cinema Display), but I'm still a CRT Fan (I know this may be blasphemous to some on here), sorry......and the price was just too good to refuse.

Anyway, I don't think I should have any problem with the IBM monitor. Has anyone hooked up their powermac to a CRT such as this, or the infamous Sony GDM-FW900?
