We just got a mac mini to replace an old PC at our office. I just reinstalled OSX and all the updates. It's sitting idle on my desk in my cold office and Core Duo Temp says its 26C yet the fan is running full speed, so loud that I can hear it down the hall. Even after a reboot, the minute it starts OSX the fan kicks all the way to full. Anyone else have this problem?

Cold, about 60 or so. My Macbook doesn't even kick its fan up unless I'm doing something, the Mini is sitting there idle and its full speed. Its done this since it came out of the box, its never been silent.

Unplug everything from it, hold down the power button for fifteen seconds. That should reset the chip that controls temperature power and fans. If that doesn't work, DOA it.

Take it back to an Apple dealer, they will give you a new mobo, assuming it's still under warrenty. I love my mini cuz it just sits there quietly like a sleeping baby, you hardly ever notice it's there. The only time the fan comes on is when I do some CPU intensive tasks. My monster PC is another story..., like a MACK truck!

I finally popped the top off to find the fan cable was still unplugged from when the store upgraded the ram in it. Works fine now!

Make sure that you let them know about that. Fixing it yourself is good and all, but you shouldn't have to do it, and they need to know that they failed.
