Does anyone know of a comparision, or does anyone have an impression of how these two machines compare?

I have the dual G5 now - I wonder if I'd be OK with the speed of the new iMac? Or should I be considering the upgrade to the Pro Tower. I do a lot of work with the Macromedia/Adobe suite of products - then just your typical stuff as well.

Thanks for any insight!

My impression is that there is little point in the upgrade, as the iMac may be a bit faster, but for Rosetta emulation of the Adobe apps, it will be much slower. Also remember that your current machine has pro build quality and more expansion options.

What screen you are currently hooking to your G5?

If it's already a 23" class LCD going to 24" iMac won't give you anymore screen real estate as their resolution are the same.

For any dual G5 user the real upgrade is a MacPro and anything lower than that it just like "downgrade"

I currently own the same 1.8 Dual G5 and a 2.0 Dual G5. I did think about selling the 1.8 and go for the MacPro. But I decided to hold off any hardware upgrade until After Effects turns UB.

MacBook Pro 1.83GHz, 2GB RAM (from work)

Good points. I've got a 19 inch Dell right now.
