I'm hoping video editors will comment here on the performance of FCP, Motion, DVDSP, and Compressor using MacPros. Not just in terms of speed and stability, but also with respect to video capture performance via Firewire using the same pro decks you were using with your G5s before you upgraded. At what point do you see diminishing returns on investment in additional RAM modules? I know Photoshop isn't there yet, but are you still able to use it for titles, for example, without pulling your hair out?
I'd be appreciative of any and all details you would be willing to share here. Thanks in advance.

Hey Awcopus..like you I have had people tell me to post questions pertaining to such things within the "Applications" forum.....but I am not too anal about crap like this so I'll try to answer your question to the best of my knowledge...I hope my 2 cents helps you, but if it doesn't then I am sorry.
I am assuming you are using FCP 4.5, Motion 2, DVDSP 3 and Compressor 2. If so then the applications should work under "Rosetta" if I am not mistaken. You'll be able to use it BUT you'll definitely take a performance hit under Rosetta since it tends to utilize quite a bit of resources.
If you ask me, you are better off getting an upgrade to Final Cut Studio 5.1. Apple has a deal going on that lets you upgrade to Final Cut Studio 5.1 for $199.00. If you have Motion 2 or FCP 4.5 or DVD Studio 4, you can send in your CD and they'll give you a Final Cut 5.1production Suite (YES the one that costs almost 1300 dollars which includes fcp production suite that includes fcp, dvdsp, motion, soundtrack).
Thats a mad awesome deal I think. You should be able to run FCP 5.1 without any problems since its a Universal Version. Here is the link that you may want to look into:
Apple - Pro Applications Universal Crossgrade
I have allready sent in my Motion 2 "Academic Version" cd for the upgrade. Just a word of advice, if you do decide to do an upgrade, I recommend you ask your post office for a return reciept because those fools at Apple who are part of the media exchange program are a bunch of Lazy Fools. TThey got my motion 2 cd a day after columbus day and it has been a week and no word from them. They didn't even bother putting the info in their system. I finally call them and they tell me its going to get shipped today. I am like wtf...no confirmation email saying u recieved the package or anything. Today I check the link on apple and I see information for the first time, but nothing regarding the product being shipped...I have been calm and patient with them, but I need to get a little nasty with them. Anyhow, back to the main topic, so once you know that the product was delivered, get on their A$$.
Hope the info helps.

Versions of Final Cut Studio prior to 5.1 will not function on any Intel-based Macs.
