Since I last ran software update about a month and a half ago on one of my old iMac DVSEs it won't load any apps. The icons bounce in the dock and the arrowhead appears below them but then it just dissapears and the app does'nt load. When attempting to run about this Mac from the Apple menu it logs the user out. I have run disk util on it when it was booted up in firewire target disk mode and attached to my PBG4 and no issues were found. Does anyone have any ideas on what may be causing this? I am reluctant to wipe the disk and start again but I'm thinking that may be the only way.

Try downloading the latest combo updater and install it on the machine - that fixes many common errors. If that doesn't work, try opening some apps from the Terminal and see what the error message is.
