I'm running 512mb of ram, I know, I need more, but I'm broke right now.

I am running Safari, Adium, and iTunes. Every time I change the volume, spinning beachball of death, switch tabs, beachball of death, SCROLL DOWN, death.

There's gotta be something wrong here. I know it's a year old, but damn, this is pathetic.
17" iMac G5 1.9GHz iSight, Mighty Mouse(wish they'd make a bluetooth version), and JBL Encounter 2.1 speakers...

Run Activity Monitor and see what is eating your memory.

The G5 and Mac OS X crave memory. You simply need more. At least a gig will help immensely.

You could shut off the dashboard. Also, in regards to your sig, Apple does make a bluetooth mighty mouse.
