I was in Comp USA today, and ask the "Mac Salesperson" that works there for the iMac 24" to buy it. then he told me two things...

1) you better buy the Apple Warranty because those iMacs burn pixels after two month of use and many people are mad because of that, also Apple will not refund or repair the imac if it less than 8 pixels burned on a single LCD. (weird I know...)

2) If I where you, I just wait to buy that iMac on April, Apple will introduce the new ones that month with a brand new 30" iMac on the list.

anyone knows something about it?

I was talking this same topic at other threads here... but this guy just told me that so.. it got me thinking now... just checking... I will buy it (the 24" one) tomorrow at Millenia Mall, I don't care if it come a black iMac with a 30" LCD and 4 Core 2 Duos inside. I've been using a G4 for 5 years, and I just want a new Mac NOW.

About the new iMac coming in April, that's just a rumor.
No one really knows when Apple will release new version of iMac.

And the best times to get any Apple product (whether it's iMac, Macbook or iPod) is
when it first comes out. Waiting for better or newer version will make you waiting forever.

First, quicklee said it best, the dude works at CompUSA. His credibility is terrible based solely on that.

Second, why he would ever tell a customer to wait SIX MONTHS is beyond me. Obviously if someone comes in wanting to buy a computer, they aren't shopping 6 months in advance.

Third, I've never heard of the pixel issue he talked about. Sure pixels go out all the time on any LCD screen. But I've never heard of Apple not fixing it when its under warranty, even if its the 1 year one. I could be wrong here but I've just never heard of that. Besides, any Mac "expert" worth a damn knows that buying AppleCare for an iMac is the smart thing to do regardless of its track record.

Fourth, new iMac in April? No sh!t sherlock. Surely there will be another one out by then or shortly thereafter. This dude is a total dip.

In conclusion, this guy is a moron and you should seek a second (i.e. - valid) opinion.

Believe it. Apple totally lets Best Buy sales clerks in on their plans before anybody else.

that guy cracks me up.
i'm sure that apple called him, let him know their plans, so he can suggest people NOT buy current macs, and wait.

i remember, when 10.4.6 came out, i installed it.
next day i am at the apple store, and one of the geniuses assures me i'm mistaken:
10.4.5 is still the current os.

even applestore employees dont know whats out until it's out.

and, as stated above, april is six months away.

i'm getting an imac next week!
