How much memory could the old Gigabit G4's hold as far as memory is concerned. Specs I find say 1.5, but that makes no sense since the machine has 4 slots, and if it can take 512 meg sticks (hense to even get to 1.5 gigs) it should actually hold 2 gigs of ram. Am I missing anything that would bust the 2 gig theroy?

Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) - Technical Specifications

Was this an OS9 thing and with X installed will it report and use 2 gigs, if I install 4 sticks of 512 meg pc100 memory?

Thanks...

Mine is one version newer (Digital Audio) and I've only got three ram slots.

IIRC OS 9 was 1.5. OSX can actually see the whole 2GB.

That is correct.

OS9=1.5 Gig

OSX=2 Gig

Maximum memory per stick = 512MB

It's probably bad memory. Try each stick one at a time to isolate the bad one. Otherwise a hitting the CUDA switch is never a bad idea (just don't hold it down or you'll drain your PRAM battery).
