Hi, I have an Imac and the alert sounds for mail and Itunes etc have stopped all of a sudden. Ive looked all through the sound effects in system preferences and also I looked at the itunes sound prefs but I cant figure out whats happened. They arent muted or turned down, everything looks normal. Its only happened since I downloaded Itunes 7.1 version.
In system prefs- sound, where it says "play alerts and sound effects through" there is a drop down menu next to that which says 'internal speakers' but it is greyed and so does not drop down. I have a feeling this is where the problem is but dont know how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated. cheers

De-ja vu. I read this on the forums somewhere the other day I think. Try re-installing iTunes 7.1 and if that doesn't work try applying the 10.4.8 combo update to try and fix any broken system files.

What is the 10.4.8 combo update? Is that the OS?

It's an updater for the OS. It contains all of the updates from 10.4.0 to 10.4.8 and re-applying it may help to solve your problem in case something in the OS is broken.

I did the combo update and it appears to have resolved the issue, thankyou for your help.
