Hi,

I have a MacMini G4, the logic board died and I got it repaired under AppleCare. I just got it back and now when I start the machine up I get a lot of text gobled-gook on the screen as it starts instead of a nice Apple logo. It sort of looks like some crazy old DOS/Windows machine booting. It still eventually boots fine. I tried a clean install (via ASR image) and the same thing still happens even though if I put that same image on a different machine the other machine boots normally. How do I get rid of the ugly text and get the nice Apple logo back at boot?

Hi,

No I don't have a picture, its at the beginning of the machine booting so its long before I'd be able to take a screenshot. The text says things like "this = 0" "that = 1" "whatever is launching" as well as some messages about networking type stuff that I don't quite recall. I've been told that this may be Open Firmware's verbose boot mode. And I was told there are supposedly some GUI programs I can download to reset it back to normal mode. But frankly I'd prefer to just get the necessary command any run it myself from the terminal or boot into Open Firmware and run it, than bother with downloading a program to do it. So if anyone knows the command I need please let me know. It'd be much appreciated. Thanks.

Well, I figured you would take a picture with a camera, not a screenshot. Somebody here probably knows how to do this.

Hi,

Yes, it was in verbose mode, as well as some type of debug mode. I resolved the issue by downloading a program called MacPilot from:

http://www.koingosw.com/products/macpilot.php

The program allows you to configure various (hidden) OS type things. Under the system heading I just changed start-up mode back to normal, saved changes, rebooted and all was fine.
