What "Apple suggested" methods have you tried? I'll see if I can think of any more.

I have tried the following :

1. Pushing the eject button
2. move to trash
3. itunes eject
4. Toast 6 - eject
5. diskutility - eject .... it responds that the disk is not unmounted
6. Restart holding Option-command-O-F : will not respond.... it just pypasses and Mac OS logs on.
7. Resart holding "C": will not respond.... it just pypasses and Mac OS logs on.
8. Restart with mouse pushed down.

In everycase nothing happens.

Is it a software problem or hardware?
Is there anywhere I can mecahnically force eject?

Many thanks for trying to help!

If you go to the System Profiler in the Utilities folder, does it show that the system is acknowledging a Combo or Superdrive (click on the ATA heading)?

Here's a few things I'd try:

1. Establish a second Admin User and login as that user. Will it eject?
2. Reset the PRAM by restarting while holding down the option-command-P-R keys at the same time, let the chime go through a minimum of 4 repeats. When it starts up after you finally release the keys, will it eject?

I'm a bit puzzled that you can't startup in open firmware (option-command-o-f). How many times did you try it, keeping in mind that holding the key combination down is a bit weird?

This works for me almost every time a disc refuses to eject:

Open a Terminal window.
At the prompt, type drutil eject and hit enter.

If it doesn't work the first time, try again.
