Okay I have a 1st generation imac with the tray loading Cd=rom. I installed 10.3.9 on it the other day, because 10.4 won't install on it thanks to the lack of firewire port. Sucky. So anyway, when I hit sleep, the screen shuts off, the drive spins down, but the fan stays on FOREVER.

WHY!

It did not used to do this, and it's annoying as heck!

Thx!

Try resetting the power management (possibly termed PMU for those Macs) - search for the how to at Apple.com support pages.

You could try resetting the logic board. The guide in the link that follows shows you how to get to the back up battery on the logic board. To reset the logic board, take out the battery and leave it out for 10 minutes. Then put it back in again (the correct way around!) and it should have been reset, and reassemble the iMac.

First though... did you check that you have the latest firmware update for those Macs before installing OS X?

Yeah, it should have all the latest firmware updates. Besides, the fan was fine in 10.2! Ever since 10.3 it's been all fan all the time!
