Hi, I would like to add a second monitor to my new iMac 17". I just wonder if the second monitor will slow down my main monitor graphics?
Thanks.

Maybe I should be more specific. The graphics card is a x1600 128MB. If I buy a 20" monitor, will the graphics on the main monitor experience significant slowdown?
Thanks.

No. Adding displays doesn't slow down graphics. It just means that VRAM needs to be split between all displays instead of used completely by only one display. Back when there wasn't a lot of VRAM in machines, this limited display resolutions and number of colors. This isn't really the case anymore. You'd be fine.

Ok, how about this... I am thinking of getting a 24" imac, but for just a couple hundred more, I could get a 20" with a second 20" monitor. I work with Final Cut, Motion, Photoshop and Flash primarily. I would assume that maxing out the video ram would help with a second monitor.
Any advantages or disadvantages to either set up over the other? Recomendations?
