I looked through several pages here, but did not see any recent threads on this. Its been quite a while since I was here, so I missed months past discussions. What video upgrade option is there for the G5? I have the 2.0 Ghz 2004 G5. It came with the 128 mb ATI card, and has the AGP bus. AT OWC there is the X800 card for just under 400$.

As far as I know, the X800 is the most powerful videocard the PowerMac G5 supports.

Thanks, Mr. brokenjago,
I thought I had read something else, but that must have had to do with later G5s.
Thanks.

the x800 is the best option for your machine. the later macs wth pci-e can use a new ATI x1900xt G5 edition, or a mac 7800gt

Thanks tkmd,
I think that is for the later G5s that have the PCI E. Mine is one of the first run of 2 Ghz G5s, made with an AGP bus. If the more powerful card would work on mine, I should be very interested in it.
I will have to go to the eshop again. I twice went there and put in my own Mac's generational id, so to speak, and the X 800 was what they recommended. What I should do is to put in the later models and see what happens. But thanks for the thought, if it is something that I might be able to use, I am interested, that is why I inquired here.
Think I'll call Apple.

maybe you dont know what pci-e and agp are? they are different video card connection types, and his has agp. The card you linked(and i talked about) only works with the latest generation g5's(intro. around this time last year) with pci-e.So dont be a smartass when your wrong.
